having grown up around addicts myself, i saw first hand the damage and paralyzing destruction addiction can inflict on a person. it's all encompassing. it ruins lives and destroys families and even when you stop, even when you go and you get help and you're sober for four years, it can still come back and bite you in the ass.
it's an ugly disease misunderstood by many, mostly those who haven't experienced addiction for themselves. sometimes it takes the loveliest and most talented people away from us. those who were looking for an alternate universe; who didn't know how to live a straight life {or how to live in their own reality} because they could only envision and lust after something more, something better, something euphoric. perhaps even, divinity.
for all those who belong to the 27 club, countless others, and my father:
now, you are free.
