Saturday, Kasi took me wine tasting for my birthday. The forecast was a whopping 70 degrees and gorgeous. This was Kasi's first time wine tasting and touring, so we started the day off with a tour at a one of the fanciest vineyards I've ever been to {unfortunately I didn't snap any pictures :/}. This particular vineyard had a much more modern design with lots of cubism, high ceilings, a circular cave {where they store the barrels in a cold, dark room}, stainless steal piping, and all around great asthetic feels. We were running a little late for our noon tour and were afraid we'd miss it, but lucky for us, we were the only ones there! This vineyard is super tucked away and it was really fun that we got the whole place to ourselves. The grapes here are all from Bordeaux, France, grown right here in Virginia.
I've been wine tasting a few times in Italy and California, and I really enjoyed being there with Kasi while he got to experience everything for the first time. From there, we drove up and down route 50, stopping at Chrysalis Vineyard which has 100% Virginia {American} grapes {also called the Norton grape}, Swedenburg Winery which has a German twist on it {they actually warmed up their speciality/seasonal wine in the microwave for a minute and served it to us in mugs!}, and then finally at an intimate and tucked away Piedmont Vineyard where we caught a glimpse of the sunset {at 5pm!} Before completely heading out for the day, we stopped at an adorable French restaurant to gas up on steak frites, rockfish and cappuccinos before the 40 minute drive home.
