Joy Riding in the Benz

08 April 2011

Last night after stuffing our faces with a more than lavish home-made feast (courtesy of my Mom) and a few glasses of white wine, my Mom, Aunt and I were feeling a little blue and super missing my Dad, so we decided to take his Mercedes out for a little joy-ride.

It was an emotional adventure to say the least, one that led us to Kasi's house for a surprise visit, a nice drive around the lake, and frantically searching for an open gas station at 11pm when we realized the gas light was on. This beautiful 'boat' hasn't been driven in quite sometime, and it felt good to get her out on the road. Dad would have appreciated it. He also wouldn't have let me drive (which I so last night ;)

Have you ever seen The Darjeeling Limited? Remember the scene where the three of them stop by the mechanic's shop to pick up their Dad's Porsche to take to his funeral? It was a little bit like that last night. A full-on adrenaline rush and emotional journey that felt like we had just stolen our own Dad's car and traveled back in time.
