dear {hurricane} irene,
thanks a bunch for scaring the crap out of everyone in the DC area, as well as the entire east coast, who were not only dreading your arrival, whenever and wherever you hit, but proved to be petrified of it, too {nyc evacuations + umass amherst closed?}. in all honesty, i'd say i was pretty thankful that you came to visit us in DC. it required me to take charge at work and create a semi-emergency preparedness plan for our company, and made me plan ahead for both my work and personal life. it also forced kasi and i to take a little staycation in our apartment, and enjoy some QT with yummy wine and beer, good movies and new nail colors to try {ok so, that last one is just for my benefit}. we really needed a weekend away {or inside... anywhere that required us to be lazy, chill out and take a breather from this busybusybusy summer}. it also got me cooking again {no kidding -- i woke up saturday morning and cooked spaghetti, cumin quinoa with grapes, feta and garbanzo beans, and made a huge greek salad}. oh, and did i mention i love thunderstorms? because i do. but what i think i loved the most, was how much you cooled us down. thanks especially for that one, irene!
next time you {or a relative} swings by DC, let me know so that i can aptly park my jetta around the corner on 5th, and i can be the oh-so-lucky victim {and owner} of a lovely little car that you drop a giant tree on, and not the poor volvo that fell victim this time {pictures to come in next post}.
i really need a new car.
irene, you were a slight pain in my bum, but honestly, i didn't really mind you.
til next time,
kat
